The Virtual Reality Modeling Language This is a 3D modeling language created by its author, Michael Abrash. It was designed to allow for easy creation of virtual environments in software that's capable of supporting VRML, including the Open-Source 3D project Blender. It was designed to support levels of realism which are only seen in professionally produced CGI. The primary idea is to keep it simple with text commands rather than relying on scripting or using any external files - this way it's available for use by anyone familiar with the Blender interface, regardless of their level of experience in computer graphics. Creation of Virtual Reality Content Abrash released the first version of the language in 1996, and made available his tools for creating virtual reality environments. Various websites were made that enabled other people to create their own content using his tools. Some of these include Blender's own V-Ray site, the 3D visualization site Virtual Animation Planet, and an educational site called VRML by Abrash. He also has founded companies that do business online, including Autodesk Labs (the company itself) and Blast Theory (the company's website development division). For many years he was the chief scientist at Autodesk Labs before moving to teaching positions at several universities. .
