1920 London Movie Download 720p Kickass The 1920s was a period of immense cultural change in England. It was a time where the old country life style gave way to new modern ideas and people. As a result, many British movies from the decade reflected these changes. As history would have it, the first British silent movie was also released in the year 1920. It was called “The Great White Silence” and it depicted how an English explorer has to battle with snow storms and extreme cold on his expedition to the Arctic. A silent movie with sound effects served as an introduction for this feature film. The producers intended to cash in on the new technology called “talkies” which would soon dominate world entertainment. Director Al Anderson of Twickenham Studios made the first British sound movie in his studio located at Walton-on-Thames near London. The production company Anglo-Scottish Pictures later reorganized into Gainsborough Pictures which was eventually merged into EMI. The 1920s was a decade of British movies that pioneered the sound era and these movies also introduced stars such as Buster Keaton, Ronald Coleman, Charles “Buddy” Rogers, Maurice Chevalier and Fernandel. The very first British talkie was made at Twickenham Studios as well as the first director to film a full length feature in Britain. The movie was called “Syncopation” and it depicted the relationship between a salesman and his wife who was becoming increasingly besotted with someone else. The husband eventually became aware of this and used strong arm tactics to bring his wife back home. The subject of this film was an American export and the price of cotton had driven many Britons to poverty. The sound era also saw British stars such as Buster Keaton, Ronald Coleman, Charles “Buddy” Rogers and Maurice Chevalier. The great French director Jean Renoir and Rene Clair also contributed to British movies in the 1920s which helped repopulate French cinema at a time when it suffered from instability and financial issues. In other countries besides Britain, filmmakers began playing around with sound early in the decade. In Germany the first full length feature was made in 1922 which depicted a sailor who fell into a coma while on his way to America hoping that he would be wealthy because of it. The 1920s was an era when musicals dominated the cinema at a time when Hollywood was yet to make its first sound movies. The musical comedy genre was created in Britain during this decade. The very first British musical comedy by extension was called “Pimpernel Smith” which featured music by George Gershwin and lyrics by Edna St. Vincent Millay. The movie depicted the adventures of two serving women in World War I and how they made it back to their hometown where they met up with the hero of the story who had disguised himself as a female nurse to escape German prison camp. cfa1e77820
